Janis Schroeder travaille en tant qu’artiste, cinéaste, et chercheur, utilisant principalement les médias de la vidéo et de la photographie. Dans ses films et séries de photos, il explore des thèmes liés à l’écologie et autour des questions d’identité. Après avoir étudié la recherche artistique à la Haute École d’Art et de Design de Genève (HEAD), il y a été y employé pendant plusieurs années en tant que Collaborateur scientifique. Il a notamment participé au projet de recherche intitulé The Anthropocene Atlas of Geneva. Dans le cadre du programme d’études postgrade en Anthropologie visuelle et des médias de la Freie Universität Berlin, il a travaillé sur le projet de recherche cinématographique Zwischenraumerkundung, dans lequel il explore, d’une manière artistique, la notion de “société post-migratoire”.
