• Microfiche readers were used in many archives well into the 21st century to make archival holdings accessible to visitors – as precursors to today’s online catalogues. Microscopic texts and images are greatly magnified for viewing. Here, the device is repurposed as an inspector of the past. In the viewer, remnants of rubble from the Second World War can be found, collected from rubble heaps in Berlin. This brings the engagement with German history into focus.

Dimensions of War is an artistic engagement with the image archive Foto Marburg and was presented from July to September 2026 in the exhibition Documenting the Documents at the Architekturschaufenster Karlsruhe.
