• Overcoming Nationalism is an audio piece that plays all national anthems of all European countries simultaneously*. The thick and heavy polyphony makes it impossible to distinguish single notes or specific musical elements.

The artwork can be seen as a criticism of nationalism, egoistic nationalist, right-wing populist politics, of the political agenda of “Make whatever country great again,” of a culture of jumbled screams in which the individual voice is barely perceived.

It could also be understood as a new melody, that represents Europe in its richness as well as its cultural and historical diversity. A place to start from. To put hope in. A song that overcomes the nationalist perspective, and perceives Europe as a whole. A song that is not necessarily limited to national anthems, but could be enriched by more voices and songs who want to contribute to a solidary togetherness that is open to the world.
