The video installation Außer Betrieb is a column-like sculpture consisting mainly of steel springs from a mattress. It shows a short video that is intended to depict the subjective feeling of a sleepless night in an experimental way.

Phases of stress and sensory overload alternate with phases of calm and emptiness. The blank blue screen, which makes up a large part of the video, is a kind of non-image that is also often displayed on devices that do not receive s signal. It is not empty because there are no images and information that could be shown, but quite the opposite, because there is too much of it, which means that no more information can be received.

Außer Betrieb is an intervention in space. The column-like structure extends from the floor to the ceiling and thus refers to the exhibition venue and its architecture.
